TRASH INFORMATION

WASTE MANAGEMENT is the solid waste service provider for the City of Auburn. Our collection crewes look forward to providing you with the best service in the industry today.

Trash is picked up every Wednesday, However, due to traffic, road conditions and volumes we may sometimes run at a different time. To ensure pick up, please have your items at the curb by 6:00 am or the night before your collection day.

Large items such as furniture, appliances (including refrigeration units WITHOUT Freon), stove, hot water tank, grills, etc. will be collected on the same day with your rubbish. Carpet is accepted. It must be rolled and tied in 4 foot sections. No more than 16 bundles at any one time. Please remove any doors from items before placing at the curb. Place at the curb with your rubbish by 6:00 am or the night before.

RECYCLING INFORMATION

WASTE MANAGEMENT RECYCLING GUIDELINES

Recycling material is picked up every OTHER week on Wednesday.

Curbside Recycling Guidelines

Telephone Books – Must be placed in the recycle bin or with newspaper.
Glossy Magazines & Catalogs – Bundle several at a time with string or strong rubber band. Stuff as many as you can in a boxboard box and place in or on top of recycle bin for collection.
Boxboard – Cereal Boxes, shoe boxes, and similar type material. Stuff as many at a time in a boxboard box or brown paper bag and place in or on top of recycle bin.
Newspaper & Glossy Inserts – Place in brown paper bag or tuck to one side of the recycling bin.
Corrugated Cardboard – Fold or cut and place in separate brown paper bag or bundle in 2 foot by 2 foot wide bundles. Place next to recycle bin.
Glass Bottles & Jars – Clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars ONLY.
                           Rinse and TAKE LIDS OFF
                              Labels are OK
                         No ceramic, window glass, broken glass or drinking glasses.

(Bottles and jars only)
Plastic Bottles & Containers with symbols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 (look on the bottom)
Rinse and throw lids in trash – Labels are OK
Metal Cans – Tin, steel and aluminum cans, lids OFF and place inside of the can. Rinse, labels are OK
Latex Paint – Fill the can with kitty litter, leave the lid off the can(s) and allow paint to dry. Cans will be picked up at the curb only after the paint is dry
Empty Aerosol Cans – Must be empty, remove plastic lid and nozzle if possible

Plastic resin identification codes and plastic recycling

Most plastic products have a recycling symbol with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 along with letters. This is the SPI resin identification coding system which is a set of symbols placed on plastics to identify the polymer type. The symbols used in the code consist of arrows that cycle clockwise to form a rounded triangle and enclosing a number, often with an acronym representing the plastic below the triangle. When the number is omitted, the symbol is known as the universal Recycling Symbol, indicating generic recyclable materials.

Fluorescent bulbs and batteries contain mercury and other toxic materials that can be harmful to humans and the environment when improperly disposed. With our Think Green® From Home recycling kits, you can safely recycle these materials for pennies a day, without going farther than your own mailbox. Designed for the safe storage and transport of discarded bulbs or batteries, the kits come with prepaid postage for shipping with the United States Postal Service.
